ASM Clermont beat Union Bordeaux-Bègles in its lair on Saturday in the Top 14 (34-19). But the Auvergne club lost its scrum half and captain Baptiste Jauneau, who was out injured.
Will we see Baptiste Jauneau in Sapiac next week for the 14th day of Top 14 against Montauban? Nothing is less certain… Indeed, everyone has been holding their breath for several hours now about the scrum half and also captain of the ASM. Saturday evening at Marcel-Michelin and in Dantean conditions, the Auvergne club claimed the scalp of Union Bordeaux-Bègles on the occasion of the 13th day of the championship. A victory which allowed the Jaunards to release the frustration of last week’s defeat against Perpignan…
Unfortunately, this success was colored by Jauneau’s exit due to injury in the 42nd minute of play. Hit in the right thigh during a ruck, the native of Pau had to give up his place, on his two legs of course but with the help of the two local trainers and the head in bad weather.
A significant absence
At a press conference, Christophe Urios, the ASM coach, simply said about his captain: “It’s the ischios, I don’t know any more”. New Zealand opener Harry Plummer was a little more loquacious in comments taken up by L’Équipe: “I’m really afraid for Baptiste. We don’t know what it is yet. I hope we will find out in the coming days. He is the heart of the ASM. He’s still a very young player, but a lot of people like him. I hope it’s not as bad as it looks. »
It is very likely that Baptiste Jauneau will undergo examinations in the coming hours (if this has not already been done) in order to know the definitive diagnosis and define the treatment protocol. And a period of unavailability which could be several weeks. At the time of writing, the club had not announced anything either on its website or on its networks.
