This Saturday, the organizers of the ATP tournament in Metz announced the withdrawal, due to injury, of Daniil Medvedev. The Russian therefore finished his season.
End clap for Daniil Medvedev. The Russian, 13th player in the world, should have participated in the ATP tournament in Metz from next week. Finally, the Russian, who had inherited the status of seeded No. 2, which would have allowed him to be exempt from the first round, preferred to withdraw due to an injury. The announcement of this package was made this Saturday by the organizers of the Moselle Open, on their account X : “After his good performance during the Rolex Paris Masters, Daniil Medvedev unfortunately presented himself today at the Metz Arena to have an injury contracted during his match against Alexander Zverev yesterday (Friday) evening noted. »
Before continuing: “The player, former world number 1, who honored us with his presence in 2022, met the tournament director, Julien Boutter, to express his disappointment. We wish him a good recovery. »
Medvedev will not go further in 2025
Medvedev’s 2025 season is therefore officially over. This exercise ended this Friday, October 31, with a defeat, during the quarter-finals of the Rolex Paris Masters, on hard indoor, against the German Alexander Zverev, 3rd player in the world and seeded No. 3, in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)) and 2h32 of play. This setback signaled the end of the Russian’s hopes in the race to qualify for the Masters at the end of the year. Consequently, Daniil Medvedev did not necessarily have any interest in continuing this 2025 exercise further.
As the organization of the ATP tournament indicates in its press release, Daniil Medvedev has already participated in this same event. It was in 2022. At the time, seeded No. 1, the Russian, exempted from the first round, then did not make it past the round of 16, beaten, upon entering the fray, by the Swiss Stan Wawrinka, now down to 158th place in the world, in three sets (6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3) and 2h24 of play.
