Mick Schumacher, the bad news

After two years of collaboration in the world endurance championship, Mick Schumacher and Alpine parted ways this Thursday. The future of the German driver is still uncertain.

After the end of his Formula 1 adventure in 2022 with the Haas team, Mick Schumacher became a reserve driver at Mercedes, before launching into endurance in 2024 with the Alpine team. But after finishing 22nd then 16th in the last two seasons in the world championship (WEC), the 26-year-old German driver left the French team.

“I am very grateful for the last two years with Alpine. I learned a lot, on and off the slopes, and I thank everyone who contributed. I wish them the best for the future. See you in 2026! », wrote Mick Schumacher on his account Instagram. He has scored a total of three WEC podiums, including two at the start of the 2025 season, at Imola and Spa.

“So many beautiful memories shared over the last two years! Thank you Mick for your hard work, dedication and contribution to the Alpine Endurance team. We wish you the best for the future,” replied the French team, which finished fourth then sixth in the WEC constructors’ championship over the last two seasons. It now remains to be seen what Mick Schumacher will do in 2026.

A rebound in IndyCar for Schumacher?

He will not be part of the Cadillac project in Formula 1, since veterans Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas were preferred. But he could on the other hand enter IndyCar, the famous American single-seater championship, he who recently carried out private tests for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team.

A return to endurance, within the McLaren team, is also mentioned for the 2027 season, when the British team launches into Hypercar, the premier category of the WEC. Schumacher is the second driver to leave the Alpine team this year after Frenchman Paul-Loup Chatin, who was recruited by Genesis.
