The cut has obviously did not do good to Gaël Monfils. Indeed, arrested Thursday evening because of the night with two sets everywhere (6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6), the match between the French against Marton Fucsovics ended this Friday afternoon. Back on court number 18, the Hungarian, who had returned to his opponent before the interruption, only needed around forty minutes to dominate the 48th world in the last round (6-4).
While the two players initially played an equal game, Fucsovics ended up making the difference by taking the French service at 2-2 on his first break ball. After a white game, the 105th world even had the opportunity to fly permanently but Monfils delayed the deadline by saving two double break balls. But, overall little worried about his players, the Hungarian finished the work soon after and therefore qualified for the 3rd round in Wimbledon.

Finally eliminated, the native of Paris (38 years old) can have regrets as he seemed to be able to extend the adventure a bit on the London lawn. After playing a little more than three hours on Thursday, Monfils obviously failed to relaunch the machine this Friday and will therefore go further during this 3rd Grand Chelem tournament of the year. After a little rest, the French will be expected this summer during the North American tour leading to the US Open.
For his part, Fucsovics will therefore be present in the 3rd round at Wimbledon for the first time since 2020 (he had then reached the 8th finals of the tournament). In the next round, the Hungarian will now cross the road to a seeded, namely Ben Shelton.
