Adrian de San Isidoro, head of section at 60 million consumers, tested the Inc monthly for December, 10 ovens, between 300 and 800 euros. Decryption.

Franceinfo: The oven with a simple timer and a cooking temperature, is it over?

Adrian de San Isidoro: And yes, some devices embark up to 45 recipes such as cooking roast beef, chicken thighs or a sponge cake. Recipes that we tested for each of the devices put on the test bench.

The results are very positive, since the notes oscillate between 13.2 and 17.2/20. None of these models, rather average range, has really been default. Even if there are a few downsides that wander.

You have chosen built -in ovens. Are the models that are selling the most?

Absolutely and by far: these models total three quarters of sales for 2023 and 2024, according to the analysis firm Nielsen/GFK. Devices favored by the French, because they take up much less space than free laying ovens.

From one model to another, the price difference can be explained by the number of heating modes, which varies from 5 to 15 depending on the devices, to the presence or not of certain functions, such as the Air Fry mode, or the steam cooking. The number of accessories provided, lèche Barder, turns, pastry plate, etc., also pulls prices up.

When we talk about cooking assistants, what is it?

These are devices that will automatically determine, depending on the recipe chosen, the parameters necessary for cooking. In this case, time and temperature.
The recipe function is practical, but keep the ovens well, to find out which recipe corresponds to which program, since a number, nothing explicit is indicated on the display.

Some preparations require a lot of care, including pastry, are the ovens you tested are you up to the task?

To assess pastry performance, we achieved a sponge cake, and the results were very satisfactory. At the exit of the oven, a golden and brittle crust was systematically obtained. But also an aerial structure and a good rise in volume. The results were also there for the preparation of chicken thighs, soft and crisp skin.

On the other hand, the preparation of the roast beef experienced a few failures. The fault of a few unwelcome overflows. And yes, the ideal cooking of a recipe is sometimes a few degrees. On this component, the Miogo, Beko, Saut, Thomson and Whirlpool devices are doing well.

On the other hand, the Hisense model, despite a very stable temperature, disappoints a little, with its 6 degrees above the desired heating level. 6 more degrees, if you want to get a pearly fish, it can be fatal. The proline oven, on the other hand, is even more imprecise with temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 degrees below those requested. This can significantly extend the cooking time.

Regarding cleaning, are the different systems convincing?

To clean your oven, you have to trigger the pyrolysis mode, which will increase the temperature up to 500 degrees Celsius, to spray fat and reduce small food residues. An operation well executed by the HISENSE and MIOGO models. After pyrolysis, a simple cloth is enough. However, it will be necessary to put a little more elbow oil after cleaning the SMEG and Whirlpool ovens, which leave too many small debris.

What about electricity consumption?

Again, there are great differences. Energy consumption ranging from simple to triple. Concretely, the cost in electricity, to cook a roast beef of 1 kilo, oscillates 12 cents for Hisense, at 40 cents for Beko, the most energy -consuming oven of our comparison.
