Hugo Gaston and Terence Atmane were both eliminated in the last qualifying round of Miami Masters 1000 in two sets.
There will be nine French people in the Masters 1000 miami table, and that’s it. The three tricolors in the running at the start of the week were all eliminated. After Adrian Mannarino on Monday in the first round, Hugo Gaston and Terence Atmane took the door. Gaston (24, 88th), who had managed to get out of qualifying to Indian Wells, lost to a player less well classified than him, Billy Harris (107th), who won 7-5, 6-2 in 1:26. The Toulousain has experienced difficulties on its service, with no less than ten break balls to defend and four granted breaks. In the first set, the Briton broke 3-2 on his second opportunity, but Gaston rocked in stride. However, at 5-6, the Frenchman again lost his putting into play, and therefore the set.
In the second, Gaston held up to 2-2, before losing four games in a row. Billy Harris will therefore compete in Miami’s Masters 1000. But it may not be over for the Frenchman, who can still hope to be spotted as Lucky-Loser (because he is one of the four best-classified players eliminated in the last round and will therefore have 25% of chances to be drawn), following the package of Nicolas Jarry, who was to face Flavio Cobolli.
Atmane Stopped by Blockx
Terence Atmane (23, 180th) faced Alexander Blockx (163rd) and he lost 6-4, 6-4 in 2:30. The young Belgian, winner of the Australian Juniors Open in 2023, was intractable on his service, saving the five Break balls that the French has obtained. Blockx Breaké at 1-1 in the first set and then saved three bales of Débreak before winning at 5-4.
In the second, he saved a shot from 0-2, then was once again break at 1-1 before saving a 3-3 ball and winning on a white game at 5-4. A few days to celebrate his 20th birthday, he will therefore play the first Masters 1000 in his career.
As for Atmane, he will take the way to Mexico, to compete in the Challenger of Morelia next week.
