The first was identified on Monday in Juzet-d’Izaut in Haute-Garonne, 100 kilometers from Toulouse, without the prefecture having communicated yet, the second in Saint-Marsal, confirmed by the prefecture of Pyrénées-Orientales.

A second case of lumpy skin disease (LCD) was detected in Haute-Garonne, on a farm with around sixty animals, in Juzet-d’Izaut, reports HERE Occitanie (ex-France Bleu) Monday December 22 from consistent sources. The prefecture does not wish to communicate on the subject for the moment. A 22nd case was detected in the Pyrénées-Orientales, in Saint-Marsal, confirmed this time by the prefecture.
According to the ICI reporter on site, access to the farm is blocked by numerous gendarmes on site. The president of the Haute-Garonne Chamber of Agriculture confirms to ICI Occitanie that the 60 cattle will ultimately be euthanized, due to their contact with the infected cow.
According to Christian Déqué, the breeder does not want “person on his farm” in order to avoid tensions, like what happened in Ariège during the blockade of the Bordes-sur-Arize farm 10 days ago. “I personally made phone calls to the leaders of all the departmental unions,” he told ICI Occitanie. “You shouldn’t add to your pain. And they gave me positive feedback”adds the president of the Haute-Garonne Chamber of Agriculture. “But I do not master the elements of other departments, which may be less reasonable”, he regrets.
In Haute-Garonne, a first case of DNC was declared on December 12 in Touille, near Salies-du-Salat, on the border with Ariège and 30 km from Juzet-d’Izaut.
In the Pyrénées-Orientales, a cattle was detected positive on a farm on Friday. This Monday, four cattle from the same herd were slaughtered. This farm had already been affected by lumpy skin disease. The latter concerned “another epidemiological unit, independent of the current case”, details the prefecture (these were geographically separated herds).
A controversial decision among breeders, who have been mobilized for several days on the roads after several herd slaughters. This choice of the government is, according to Marc Fesneau, former Minister of Agriculture, “the least bad solution to try to avoid contamination”he said Monday on HERE (ex-France Bleu) the day after a column published in La Tribune Sundaywith three other former Ministers of Agriculture (Michel Barnier, Stéphane Travert and Julien Denormandie) to defend preventive felling, “rampart measure” and of “protection” against the disease, according to them.
The number of DNC cases in Occitanie has now increased to 28 since the beginning of October.
