A few weeks before the official launch of the Ligue 1+ platform, the first signals are far from reassuring.
Ligue 1+ is already shunned by the French? Expected for August 15, the new Ligue 1+ platform, launched by the LFP after the precipitated end of its partnership with Dazn, does not seem to be unanimous. Despite a desire displayed to regain control of the broadcast of the championship, distrust remains strong, as much
with specialists than in football enthusiasts.
According to an OpinionWay survey conducted from June 13 to 15 with 1,017 people (before formalization), 64 % of French people declare that they do not want to subscribe to follow Ligue 1, and only 35 % say they are favorable. Even among football enthusiasts, mistrust remains palpable: 44 % of them do not wish to pay, which remains a high figure for a targeted audience.
The price constitutes a real blocking point. Among the 56 % of respondents open to a subscription, only 6 % would agree to pay more than 10 euros per month. However, Ligue 1+ is offered at € 14.99, well below 39.99 € from Dazn at launch, but also deemed too expensive by a majority. Even a “reasonable” offer is therefore not enough to take off the interest.
Pay-Per-View, the ignored track
A hope still exists on the side of the most loyal supporters. The survey shows that 67 % of people with a heart club in Ligue 1 are ready to subscribe. A more captive audience, which could serve as a solid basis for the platform, provided you better target its needs.
Moreover, among the tracks mentioned in recent seasons: the Pay-Per-View model, or à la carte payment. A solution that would allow fans to pay only for their team’s matches. A more flexible formula, potentially more in line with public expectations, but which still does not seem to convince the decision -makers of LFP Media.
