The president of the Italian Tennis Federation has assured that Novak Djokovic will indeed be present at the ATP Masters in Turin next week.
Since October 18, Novak Djokovic has officially qualified for his 18th ATP Masters, a record he co-holds with Roger Federer. But the Serb’s presence in Turin from this Sunday was not yet certain. However, the president of the Italian Tennis Federation cleared the uncertainty this Monday in a podcast: “We have received confirmation that Djokovic will be in Turin.”
Good news for tennis fans, who will be able to see the man with 24 Grand Slam tournaments and 100 ATP tournaments at work during the three group matches, or even more if he reaches the final four.
Djokovic at home this week
Novak Djokovic has not played in competition since October 11 and his elimination in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters 1000 against Valentin Vacherot. The 38-year-old had experienced physical difficulties throughout the Chinese tournament, and ended up giving in to the Monegasque. He then withdrew from the Rolex Paris Masters, without giving an official reason. But he is better, since he will compete this week in the ATP 250 in Athens, a tournament organized by his brother and which took place until last year in Belgrade.
Now an Athens resident, Novak Djokovic will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament, and he will face Alejandro Tabilo in the round of 16, one of the rare players to have a positive record against him, since he won their two matches, on clay, in Rome in 2024 and Monte-Carlo in 2025.
A decision that does not suit Musetti…
If he overcomes the Chilean obstacle, “Nole” could face the Portuguese Nuno Borges in the quarters, the American Brandon Nakashima in the semis and the Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the final, if the logic of classification is respected to the end. The announcement of Djokovic’s assured presence at the Masters is not good news for the Italian.
Currently 9th in the Race, the native of Carrara must absolutely win the title in Athens to start in Turin, to the detriment of Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will not play this week. If he does not lift the trophy, Musetti will have to settle for substitute status, alongside Alexander Bublik.
