Mathieu Lefèvre, Minister Delegate in charge of the Ecological Transition, was the guest of “8:30 a.m. franceinfo” Friday November 14, 2025. Time for debate in the National Assembly on the budget, measures on the ecological transition, positions of the Socialist Party… He answered questions from Camille Vigogne Le Coat and Benjamin Fontaine.

The Assembly will not sit this weekend, but “deadlines will be met”

Mathieu Lefèvre assures that there is no “no malice” from the government; after the decision not to have the National Assembly sit this weekend, contrary to what was initially planned, while the examination of the finance bill is taking place. The Minister responsible for the Ecological Transition believes that “constitutional deadlines will be met” emphasizing that “it is a constitutional obligation”.

Faced with criticism from the left, who judges this decision “unacceptable”he calls not to “overestimate the impact of this decision on the parliamentary calendar”.

Ecological transition: the budgetary context “imposes realism”

“Let us not believe that the environment would be an adjustment variable, quite the contrary”insists Mathieu Lefèvre. The minister recalled that the Green Fund will be allocated 650 million euros, while explaining that the slight decrease in the envelope is explained by the electoral calendar: “Next year, we are in an election year and therefore it is obvious that the investment decisions of local authorities will take place, by definition, after the municipal elections.”

“We also have a public finance context which requires realism. The ecological transition credits provided for in this draft budget are stable. Being stable at precisely the moment when we are seeking a recovery in public finances is a virtue”concluded the Minister Delegate in charge of the Ecological Transition.

Budget 2026: the socialists “want to reduce public deficits”

“I want to salute the courage of the socialists to enter into the debate”underlines Mathieu Lefèvre, while some Macronists say they are annoyed by the position of the Socialist Party, which has demanded numerous concessions from the government of Sébastien Lecornu since the start of the debates on the budget.

According to him, the compromises found with the socialists are the least costly option, in a context marked by complex power relations in the Assembly. Mathieu Lefèvre is convinced that the socialists have “desire to reduce public deficits” and recalls that their proposals presented “reductions in public deficits”.
