The Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe team announced this Monday the arrival of Allan Peiper as strategic advisor. The Australian had been Tadej Pogacar’s sporting director at UAE Emirates between 2019 and 2021 before leaving his post to treat kidney cancer.
He was of great help to Tadej Pogacar during his debut at UAE Emirates in 2019, and for three seasons. It is now within Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe that Allan Peiper will try to provide his valuable advice. The 65-year-old Australian was named strategic advisor to the German team for his big return to the peloton, after treating kidney cancer.
Former rider who notably passed through France in the 1980s (with Peugeot-Shell-Michelin) and winner of a stage of the 1990 Giro, Allan Peiper then became sports director for the Belgians Davitamon-Lotto in 2005before joining the Germans of Telekom then the Americans of Columbia and Garmin, then the Swiss of BMC, and finally UAE Emirates in 2019, where he contributed to the emergence of Tadej Pogacar (19 years old) at the highest level (victory at the Tour of the Algarve, at the Tour of California and on three stages of the Vuelta that year). But he had to leave his post at the end of 2021 to receive treatment.
Will he find the strategy to beat Pogacar?
Four years later, Tadej Pogacar’s former mentor is making his return, within a rival team, which has given itself the means to succeed by recruiting Remco Evenepoel this summer, while Primoz Roglic and Florian Lipowitz are already serious assets. “I am delighted to participate in this project. Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe has made impressive progress in recent years, and I see great potential to strengthen this structure even further. It’s about living a clear sporting vision and translating it into daily performance – that’s what motivates me “, he declares.
The German team is counting on him to “bring his strategic expertise and extensive experience, helping the team translate its vision into a clear sporting strategy and concrete action plans”. Will he find the strategy to beat Tadej Pogacar in the Tour de France and the great Classics?
