To visit the Ile-de-Bréhat, in the Côtes-d’Armor, it will be necessary to be one of the 4,500 lucky people of the day allowed to enter, Monday July 28, and this until August 22, 2025. A gauge system against ontourism, already put into force for a few years in certain very frequented places, especially on the island of Porquerolles (Var).

The Île-de-Bréhat (Côtes-d’Armor), the Calanques (Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône), or Porquerolles (Var) … so many treasures threatened by surcourism. “It feels like you get out of New York Airport”deplore a woman. Up to 8,200 visitors per day flock, for example, on the island very popular with Porquerolles, near Hyères (Var). To cope with this mass attendance, daily gauges to 6,000 people have been implemented since 2021.

“We were able to smooth the attendance of Porquerolles like that and just dial these peaks of attendance which were problematic”explains Yvan Arnal, of the company “Les Bateliers de la Côte-d’Azur”. Same principle in Brittany, on Île-de-Bréhat. Control on board is compulsory, because a municipal decree limits attendance to 4,700 people between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., especially in order to protect the environment.

“These visible rocks, they are the result of the thousands of the thousands of people who go to the lighthouse”Pointe Olivier Carré, mayor (SE) of Bréhat. Gauges rather well perceived by visitors. “I find that it is a good thing to regulate for everyone, for the inhabitants of the town and the island”recognizes a tourist. In France, 80 % of tourism focuses on 20 % of the territory.
