Prices at the pump are at their lowest. Near Lille (North), a motorist compares each station to make the most savings. “We try to see, depending on certain applications, where fuel is not expensive and when you have good deals like that, we try to make the most of it”he indicates. At a station, diesel costs €1.56 per liter, a good deal for the employee who uses his car every day.

Also a good surprise for a specialist educator. She spends up to 200 euros per month on fuel. “Today, I got it for 73 euros. Usually, I’m around 85 euros or so for a full tank. It’s nice to have a little extra savings”she shares.

This week, fuel prices reached their lowest level in more than three years: €1.60 for SP95, €1.53 for diesel. At the origin of this drop, a cheaper barrel of oil. Because this year, the main exporting countries have increased their production of black gold. “There are more volumes that have been produced compared to demand which remains increasing, but only slightly increasing,” explains Thierry Bros, energy expert and professor at Sciences Po Paris.

From January 1, oil companies will be required by the State to finance more the ecological transition. They could pass this cost on to the pump at between 4 and 6 euro cents per liter.
