Thriving at Manchester City, Rayan Cherki keeps Lyon in mind and talks about a possible return.
Thriving at Manchester City, Rayan Cherki seems to have reached a milestone. Transferred from Olympique Lyonnais for 42 million euros after several lackluster seasons, the French international is experiencing a major turning point in his career. Injured upon his arrival across the Channel, the attacking midfielder returned to competition in October and has since continued his performances on English pitches.
Despite his departure, Cherki has not cut ties with his training club. In an Inside episode broadcast by Olympique Lyonnais, we see him exchange by videoconference with the stewards of Les Gones, on the sidelines of Lyon’s victory in the Europa League against Go Ahead Eagles (2-1), on December 11.
Target 2036
The Manchester City player then asks to speak to Daniel Congré, OL sports coordinator. “Give it to me, I’ll talk to him about my next contract at OL,” he says in a joking tone. The former central defender took the opportunity to congratulate Cherki, particularly for his assist with the scarf against Sunderland.
“You know, it’s nothing, we made ourselves comfortable”replies the native of Lyon, before being questioned about a possible return home. ” Obliged ! »he assures without hesitation. Daniel Congré however adds a condition, always with humor: “On the other hand, you don’t come back rinsed”. Determined, Cherki then sets himself a goal that is ambitious to say the least. “I’m coming back after two Ballons d’Or, don’t worry,” he jokes, before mentioning a signing in 2036, that is to say in almost ten years.
