RSA, gas price, gray cards … which changes from May 1



Revaluation of social benefits, drop in the price of gas after months of increase, evolution of employers’ contributions … Several changes come into force Thursday, May 1. These measures concern both households and businesses. Franceinfo takes stock of what changes at the start of the month.

The price of declining gas

Households heating gas will see their lighter bill from Thursday. There Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) announces a 6.4% drop in the reference price per kilowatt hour (kWh), which goes from 0.12412 euros to 0.11619 Euro.

Frozes using gas only for cooking or hot water will also benefit from a drop. The price decreases from 0.15305 euros to 0.14512 Euro/kWh, or -5.12%. The last drop in the price of gas dates back to November 2024.

Adjustments for employer contributions

As of Thursday, companies will see the overall rate of employers’ subscription to unemployment insurance, can be read on the government site Entrepreneur.service-public.fr. It will be lowered from 4.05% to 4.00%. As for the rate of subscription for accidents at work and occupational diseases, it drops from 0.46% to 0.50%.

From May 1, 2025, companies with between 50 and 249 employees also benefit from a reduction of 0.50 euros on employer contributions for each additional hour carried out by an employee.

Social aid revalued by 1.7%

If these social benefits were revalued on April 1, in practice, the new amounts are received in early May. From active solidarity income (RSA) to the activity bonus, including family allowances and allocation to disabled adults (AAH), these aids from the Family Allowance Fund is upgraded by 1.7%, in connection with the inflation noted.

For a single person in the RSA, this represents 642.52 euros per month, a gain of 10.81 euros. For a childless couple, the amount reaches 969.78 euros, and for a home with a dependent child, 1,163.73 euros. Each additional child adds 253.28 euros to the amount received.

The activity bonus, received by 4.5 million French people, also evolves. A single and childless person will now receive 633.21 euros, against 622.63 euros before. Finally, the AAH, intended for people with disabilities with an incapacity rate greater than 80%, or 50% in some cases, is increased to 1,033.32 euros.

No payment of the energy check

The 5.7 million beneficiaries of the energy check will have to wait until the fall. The check, sent in recent years between April and May will not be distributed until November, announced Bercy. The reason: the late adoption of the 2025 finance law, which postponed the usual calendar.

This check will be automatically paid to the homes which are already entitled to it, without new approach. For new applicants, it will be necessary to point out on the dedicated site. Its amount will remain unchanged: between 48 and 277 euros, depending on the income and the composition of the home. It remains accessible only to households whose reference tax income is less than 11,000 euros for a single person, 16,500 euros for a couple, 19,800 euros for a couple with a child and 23,100 euros for a couple with two children.

In a press release, the Ministry of Economy also asked the energy suppliers “To be flexible” vis-à-vis the most precarious households, “Particularly in the event of unpaid, and to maintain their protections associated with the energy check, favoring power reduction for electricity and avoiding power interruptions”.

A revaluation of the remuneration floor for the animation sector

The educational commitment contract (EEC) is evolving, as announced by the government in a press release. The minimum remuneration paid within the framework of these contracts thus increases to 4.3 times the value of the hourly minimum wage, compared to 2.2 times before. This represents a gross amount of 51.08 euros per day, instead of 26.14 euros so far.

The EEC concerns people who provide animation or supervision functions in leisure centers or summer camps. This specific contract “”derogate from the rules of labor law on certain aspects (working time, break time and remuneration) “recalls the government.

End of free gray cards for electric cars

It was a boost to buy a clean vehicle. Until now, the gray card has been free for electric cars, excluding shipping costs and administrative, in order to encourage the French to buy them. As of Thursday, this exemption ends in all regions, except the Hauts-de-France.

The amount of the tax, the main component of the gray card price, will now depend on the pricing policy set by each regional council.

Carpooling route in Ile-de-France: a fine of 135 euros for motorists traveling alone

From Friday, motorists traveling alone on the path dedicated to carpooling the Parisian device are now likely to receive a flat -rate fine of 135 euros in the event of an offense, announced the government. Ten radars, equipped with a camera capable of recognizing forms, will be activated on Friday to locate the number of people on board.

This path, set up on March 3is reserved for vehicles transporting in particular at least two people, buses, taxis, as well as emergency vehicles from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. then from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. It extends between the Quai d’Issy and the door of Bercy, in both directions of traffic.
