The National Assembly is putting pressure on Shein, following the government, which is initiating a procedure to temporarily suspend the platform in France. Shein, which has just opened its first store in the world at BHV in Paris, has been singled out for its aggressive commercial practices.
The company has been in turmoil since the revelation on Saturday, November 1, of the sale of sex dolls resembling little girls on the site. The deputies welcome this decision by the government and want to go further in the standoff.
Rare moment of harmony in the Assembly: the deputies are all satisfied by this pressure from the government. “I didn’t expect as much, I admit, so it’s rather a positive surprise”says ecologist Arnaud Bonnet. The elected official defends a transpartisan proposal for a European resolution so that the European Union is more severe towards Shein.
At his side, in particular, the LR deputy Antoine Vermorel-Marques and the macronist Olivia Grégoire, former Minister of Commerce. “I, a simple deputy, find weapons on this platform”, deplores the first. “I find knives myself, I have around fifteen references to type A weapons, which are not allowed over the counter”added the second. “It’s unacceptable, we’ve gone from fast fashion to ‘fast crime'”, adds MP LR.
Shein has temporarily removed certain products from its platform for the French market. A response to the scandal of the sale of sex dolls resembling little girls. Insufficient for the government, which is initiating a procedure to suspend the site and is now waiting for Shein to quickly stop selling products prohibited by law. We need to review everything from A to Z, insists PS MP Romain Eskenazi: “They have to put in the human resources, even if it means seriously cutting into their margin, to control each product that will be put online on the site.”
Shein opened its first physical store in the world in Paris on Wednesday, at BHV, an emblematic department store in the capital. Unbearable, chokes Macronist MP Olivia Grégoire. “It’s scandalous, she castigates. I am a member of parliament for Paris, we are opposite the Paris town hall. Paris is the fashion capital of the world.”
“It is in my opinion amoral, it is not, as I speak to you, illegal in economic law.”

The PS is calling for this store to be closed. Off microphone, a Shein executive defends “a real popular success” for the first day of opening. “We have tens of millions of consumers in the country”swears this source, which prides itself on representing the fifth favorite clothing brand of the French.
