For his first race under the colors of Grenadiers ineos, the Australian sprinter Caleb Ewan won the 1st stage of the settimana Coppi e Bartali. French Jason Tesson took third place.
It is a victory that will certainly stay in his memory. For his very first race in the jersey of Ineos Grenadiers, Caleb Ewan managed to win! The 30-year-old Australian sprinter, recruited on January 23 by British training, was making his debut this Tuesday on the occasion of the 1st stage of the settimana Coppi e Bartali, which takes place in Emilie-Romagne.
During this flat step, Caleb Ewan was one of the favorites in view of the small sprinter set present at the start, and he actually won without any problem, in front of the Israeli Oded Kogut and the French Jason Tesson.
“There is obviously no better way to start with the team. I think I arrived knowing that my shape was quite good, but you know, when you haven’t run for so long, you don’t really have any idea of your situation. I was a little nervous this morning, but the guys did a great job. I think it was honestly one of the best departures I have ever had, so they did a good job. Everyone is 100% committed and I am happy to have been able to finish the work, ”said the Australian sprinter.
Ewan wants to regain big races
Caleb Ewan won the 64th victory of his career, the first since August, where he won on the Tour de Burgos with his former Australian team Jayco ALULAwhich had stretched his hand in 2024 after the heated end of his contract with the Belgians of Lotto (2019-2023). Winner of twelve stages on the big towers, the Australian has clearly backed away in the hierarchy of the world sprint since 2021.
Hopefully for him that this victory in Italy restores him to confidence, he who announced during his signature at Ineos Grenadiers wanting to return to big races. After the settimana Coppi e Bartali, he should return to the Word Tour at the end of April, on the occasion of the Romandie Tour. What to reconnect with the big victories?
