The online commerce giant Shein at the heart of the controversy. The brand is preparing to open a store at BHV in Paris. But there is already the pure and simple question of its closure. In question, the online sale of a doll with the face and body of a child. A sex toy that French fraud repression has classified as child pornography.
The brand swears to have removed the product from its site. “We are taking immediate corrective measures and strengthening our internal systems to prevent such a situation from recurring”responded the Shein spokesperson.
So, are customers ready to boycott this brand? The question divides. “It’s shameful, it’s even scandalous. I’m not going to give money to predators”says a man. “We must control, perhaps not eliminate, but we must still control these marks”says another man.
Monday, November 3, the Minister of the Economy Roland Lescure said he was ready to toughen his tone in the face of the Chinese platform. “If these behaviors are repeated, we will be entitled, and I will ask for it, to prohibit the Shein platform from accessing the French market. It is in the law”he declared.
But for the Mouv’Enfants association, the platform continues to sell its dolls. This is evidenced by captures in the United States, Great Britain and Chile. Here again, childish-looking sex dolls.
Other platforms accessible in France, such as AliExpress, sell similar products, punishable by a fine of 100,000 euros and up to 7 years of imprisonment, according to the fraud department.
