Corentin Moutet joined his four compatriots in the round of 16 of the ATP tournament of Stuttgart Stuttgart by having Fabio Fognini. He will now challenge Alexander Zverev.
On the eight eighth finals of the ATP 250 Stuttgart on lawn, five (at least) will concern French players! After Giovanni Mpeshi Perricard, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Arthur Rinderknech and Quentin Halys, Corentin Moutet also crossed the first round of the German tournament. Eliminated in the first round for his first participation in 2023, the 26 -year -old French won his first victory over the Stuttgart grass by having Fabio Fognini on the central court.
Descended 91st in the world after being eliminated in the second round of Roland-Garros by Novak Djokovic, Corentin Moutet beat 117th in the world (eliminated in Auteuil Porteuil qualifications) on the score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 after a beautiful 2h12 battle. A sometimes tense battle between these two players with a strong character, and the Italian also provoked the French by sending him a few words when shaking him, but Moutet did not react.
Moutet ends hard
The Frenchman was the first to have to defend station wagon, 3-2 in the first set. He saved them (3-3) and chained with a break on his first opportunity (3-4), before concluding on his first set ball at 4-5. But Fognini woke up at the start of the second round and led 3-0, before seeing Moutet pick up at 4-4. The two players had to decide in the decisive game, and the Italian won it quite largely (7-3).
In the third set, they perfectly lined up up to 4-3 in favor of the French, who then gave everything on the return game and managed to break on his first opportunity. He then converted his second match ball to 5-3 to win his ticket for the round of 16. But it is a huge challenge that awaits Corentin Moutet the next round, because it will challenge the world number 3 Alexander Zverev for the first time on the ATP circuit.
