The price of our shopping basket in 2026 is being decided now. Large retailers and agro-industrial suppliers announced on Sunday November 30 the signing of a common charter whose objective is to calm their relations, usually very conflictual, on the eve of the launch of their annual commercial negotiations. This document, new but non-binding, aims in particular to better take into account the specificities of SMEs, establish rules of good conduct in negotiations, promote fresh products and promote commitments on the origin of products.
“In a context of tense negotiations for several years, the signatory organizations have initiated a structured dialogue to arrive at a common text bringing together the expectations of the entire sector,” write in a press release the Federation of Commerce and Distribution (FCD) and five industrial organizations (Ania, Ilec, Feef, Pact’Alim and Agricultural Cooperation). The charter, initiated by the Minister of Commerce Serge Papin“establishes principles intended to establish a peaceful climate: respectful exchanges, better organized meetings, adapted modalities and maintenance of ongoing dialogue throughout the process”.
She plans “differentiated treatment for SMEs”with an end to negotiations between distributors and suppliers “no later than January 15, 2026” concerning them. The last axis of the agreement concerns “the promotion of fresh products and the continuation of steps aimed at promoting consumer information, particularly regarding the origin of products”.
Negotiations scheduled from Monday to March 1 will make it possible to set prices and conditions (delivery terms, promotional schedule, etc.) at which large stores obtain their supplies from manufacturers. They ultimately determine shelf prices, only for major brand products and not those of supermarket brands which account for more than a third of sales.
