Like Tadej Pogacar, everyone has their eyes fixed on the first big meeting of the 2026 season, where the presence of another big name is being confirmed.
In cycling, Tadej Pogacar wins almost everything, and he is the favorite in practically every race he enters. But it’s all in the “almost”, precisely. And since the Slovenian is accused of hurting cycling by killing the suspense, we can recognize on the contrary that the races which resist him are perhaps the most exciting.
We can think of Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix, which offered great battles in 2025, won each time by Mathieu van der Poel. On the Primavera, Filippo Ganna was invited to the banquet for a fierce fight between strong guys. And while waiting for the possible return to grace of Wout van Aert, another thief could join the party.
Evenepoel with Pogacar in the battle?
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Remco Evenepoel is also eyeing Milan-San Remo. Another Belgian, Maxim van Gils, is announced as leader for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe in La Classicissima. But the presence of the Olympic champion could change a lot of things.
During the Worlds, “Europe” and on the Tour of Lombardy, Remco Evenepeol was the only one to put up “a little” resistance to Pogacar. On another, less demanding playing field, his presence could on the contrary be an asset for the Slovenian. With the Belgian, “Pogi” could find an ally to make the race even tougher, and try to (finally) break free from Mathieu van der Poel, on the Cipressa or the Poggio.
