In the space of four years, the price of coffee per kilo has tripled, going from 2.10 euros to almost 6.82 euros. An increase which is explained by an ever -increasing demand and by cases of drought in Brazil and Vietnam, the main producing countries of “black gold”.
Every morning, the invoice is a little more lines for coffee enthusiasts. “It becomes quite complicated to have a coffee below 2 euros”says a young man. “I just took one at the station for € 2.40, it’s huge”Add a passerby. Since 2019, the price of raw material, the Arabica coffee has flown, from 2.10 euros per kilo to 6.82 euros in January 2025. In question, an increase in world consumption and climatic vagaries in the main producing countries (Brazil, Vietnam, Peru).
A Stéphanoise roaster entrusts its concern: “We make 700 tonnes of coffee per year. Imagine that the price (per kilo, editor’s note) takes one euro is 700,000 euros more. If we take three, it’s 2,100,000 euros. For a company like ours, an SME, it is not viable ”. Faced with this situation, the G7 countries have announced the creation of a global fund to support industry.
