Sophie Binet, secretary general of the CGT, called on Tuesday June 24 on Franceinfo the head of state, Emmanuel Macron, “To take note of the failure of the discussions and the conclave and to make the only decision which can make it possible to go out from the top and to bring together the country, namely to organize a referendum on the pension reform”. She hopes that “Democracy can speak and that the French and the French can give their opinion on this reform which concerns them all”.
Prime Minister François Bayrou resumed the initiative Tuesday morning on the pension file, summoning the social partners at midday in Matignon, after the failure of the conclave on the pension reform. Emmanuel Macron spoke on the sidelines of the NATO summit, inviting the social partners to “Be aware of the state of the world and the need for our country to move forward”. He has them “ardently” encouraged at “Go beyond the disagreements that persist and to find a solution together”.
The reaction of the cégétiste leader was lively: “It is shameful. The President of the Republic does not lack air because it is he who is responsible for this blockage by his relentlessness 2 and a half years ago to go into force and to prevent the National Assembly from voting. It is he who is also responsible for the blocking of the country, since he dissolved the National Assembly and that he refused to appoint a government from the forces arrived at the head”.
Sophie Binet insisted on the need for“Acting that the conclave is over” AND “That there is no agreement. The base on which we must leave is the need to repeal 64 year olds”. She accused the Prime Minister of having “Make these discussions fail by excluding the 64th anniversary of the debates when it was the central subject”.
The secretary general of the CGT also pointed out the role of the employers: “How does the employers have an interest in making an agreement with the unions knowing that the Prime Minister already told him that if there was no agreement, the reform would continue to apply?”. She denounced a “The desire of the employers never to pay and impose workers to go to the checkout”.
Finally, Sophie Binet announced that the CGT would initiate discussions with all trade union organizations for “Work on common initiatives in the coming months. We are very worried and we will not let ourselves be done”she concluded.
