On the verge of exporting to the United States, the Cookies factory, a brand of tricolor cookies, sees its new tarnished contract by the 20% additional customs duties that will be applied to its products sold in the United States.
With its pure butter recipe, a cookie made in Charente leaves to conquer the United States. The French brand has just concluded a record contract, with 600 stores from a large American brand. It therefore accelerates its production rate, from 16 to 45 million cookies produced per year.
“We celebrated with great fanfare the launch of the contract three months ago, and there it is a bit of a cold shower with the establishment of these customs duties”Deplore Alexis de Galembert, founder of the cookie factory. Because Wednesday, when they arrive on American soil, the cakes will be taxed at 20%. In store, the shortbread will go from $ 4 to $ 4.80. “The consequence would be a drop in volume, but not a loss of contract”explains Alexis de Galembert, who admits that the taxes still should not increase.
