Debates on the budget will resume Monday, November 3 in the National Assembly. Until now, they have focused on demanding the effort from the richest and from businesses. New taxes were passed, others, like the Zucman tax, were rejected. In this context, how do bosses plan for the coming weeks and months?

Producing in France is the pride of a boss in the Loiret, worried about the impact of the battles in the Assembly on his business. 400 employees design and manufacture metal parts, particularly for gigantic machine tools. A black rolling mill, for example, has just been sold for 5 million euros to an American industrialist. “If you go to a McDonald’s in the United States, you see an electrical outlet and behind it, there is a bit of Made in France”welcomes Bruno Grandjean, president of Redex.
He said he was relieved by the rejection of the Zucman tax. But he remains vigilant about the rest of the debates. “Common sense has prevailed, this is something that satisfies us. Now, there is still a lot of work to be done on competitiveness in France. Obviously, the more taxes we pay, the less competitive we are, the fewer contracts we will win”he indicates.
Business leaders who happily talk about tax madness, but are they ready to make efforts tomorrow? In Salon-de-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), Philippe Véran, deputy mayor LR of the town and CEO of France’s leader in dental prostheses, is annoyed to see certain deputies accuse him of lacking solidarity. “I’m making an effort. (…) I created 3,000 jobs in France. That’s my greatest happiness. That’s the reality. And I’m not contributing by doing this?”says Philippe Véran, CEO of Biotech Dentals. If professional assets were taxed, the boss says he would not hesitate to sell and retire. A perspective that does not reassure employees. “It makes the future even more uncertain than it already is with the whole current political situation”confides one of them.
In the Assembly, business taxation remains at the heart of the debates and they resume on Monday, November 3 on the budget.
