It’s the magic of social networks: getting rid of a double chin in a few bites is a dream, right? But it is prohibited in injection and even very dangerous.

Social networks are full of attractive promises, especially that of a revolutionary product: the “Lemon Bottle”. Presented as a miracle solution to make a double chin disappear in a few injections, this product is very successful, with more than 3 million vials sold worldwide. But behind this attractive image hides a very real danger.

Sold like a cosmetics in France, the “Lemon Bottle” is in the form of a small yellow bottle. However, what seems to be a simple external treatment actually hides a diverted use: the injection of this liquid in the skin to destroy fat. A fully prohibited practice in France, but which is buzzing on social networks where videos show demonstrations, like that of a bacon slice which melts instantly after an injection of “Lemon Bottle”.

Despite its ban, health professionals, such as some physiotherapists or estheticians, offer these illegal injections, going so far as to organize sessions at high prices, as in Paris, where an injection can cost 150 euros. However, this practice is dangerous. Victims, like this Briton who had to go to the hospital after complications, testify to the harmful effects of these injections: swelling, balls under the skin, and breathing difficulties. “It can go as far as necrosis” says Adel Louafi, national union of reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery “It is scandalous that there can be a diverted use of this dangerous product, openly.”

The French authorities recall that the injection of this product is illegal and would be punishable by sentences of up to five years in prison and 600,000 euros fine. In Switzerland, this product was even prohibited after analyzes revealing counterfeits. For his part, the Korean manufacturer of the “Lemon Bottle” defends his product, claiming that he presents no danger, provided that they respect local law, but without clearly responding to injection use.
