A warm-up round before the debate in the hemicycle. In the Social Affairs Committee, the deputies rejected, Friday October 31, the government’s draft Social Security budget. After rejecting the revenue part of the text on the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) earlier in the week, the deputies therefore rejected the part devoted to expenditure, thus returning the entire bill to committee. The text will arrive in the hemicycle on Tuesday, in its initial version proposed by the government.

This rejection of the bill comes despite the removal of several irritants and the adoption of the article suspending the pension reform. Earlier in the evening, the deputies had approved, in this same committee, the suspension of the pension reform proposed by the government to escape censorship from the Socialist Party.

Inserted in the Social Security budget, the article on the suspension of the 2023 reform, which gradually raised the legal starting age to 64, was approved by 22 votes to 12. The National Rally and the Socialists voted for.

The deputies Les Républicains and Horizons voted against the suspension, as did the Insoumis, for diametrically opposed reasons. LFI “will never vote for any text which provides for a postponement of the retirement age to 64”, said Hadrien Clouet. “We cannot make the French believe that they will not have to work collectively more”defended for her part LR MP Justine Gruet. The Environmentalists abstained, asking for the integration of long careers into the system and different financing avenues not relying on the insured. Finally, the Renaissance deputies also abstained so as not to hinder the “discussion” budget, while the MoDem was divided between abstentions and votes for.
