No more grandmother’s tips, like spitting glasses on the glass, washing them with soapy water, or putting shaving mousse to avoid fog. The science of materials has been used to create an anti-glow coating on which the fog can no longer train. Admittedly, there are already sprays, gels and anti -fog treatments, but they are all temporary. They must be applied regularly to keep the effect.
NTU researchers (UNanyang technology nantes) De Singapore developed, in this spring 2025, the first permanent anti -fog treatment. It is therefore necessary to apply it only once. This special film, transparent with anti -fog properties, is spread out on the glass when shaping it. The novelty is the way to apply this film, since the researchers managed to merge it with the glass, thanks to a laser. This allows him to keep his anti -fog capabilities, even after being scratched. For the record, it was during confinement that researchers had the idea of developing this technology. They could no longer have completely fluffy glasses with masks.
They therefore started by merging a self -cleaning film with contact lenses, which worked pretty well. Then, they managed to adapt their technique to the famous anti-glow coating. The fogging on glasses is an old problem like the world and it was enough for a pandemic (and a lot of research of course) to settle it.
These researchers have patented the technique. From now on, it is offered under license to glass manufacturers who will be responsible for industrializing it. The first interested parties are manufacturers of solar panels. Their first models should arrive at the end of 2025. This technique can adapt to both glass and plastic and will treat mirrors in the bathroom, motorcycle helmets, windshields or (and this should interest a lot), in swimming pool glasses. This will avoid spitting in each time we wear them.
