“The government has made the right choice” By ordering the immobilization of 800,000 additional vehicles equipped with Takata airbags considered at risk, bringing to 2.5 million the number of vehicles targeted by a recall in France, estimated on Wednesday June 25 on Franceinfo Pierre Chasseray, general delegate of the association 40 million motorists.
“Yes, the government makes the right choice. We are lucky to have a Minister of Transport who has courage”estimated on franceinfo Pierre Chasseray. “Indeed, it is restrictive for many motorists. But what is the price of human life? We are to a extent that needed political courage. This measure which orders this recall of the incriminated vehicles seemed to me more than Esteential”.
The government decided on Tuesday to take drastic precautionary measures by ordering the immobilization of 800,000 additional vehicles. These announcements bring to 2.5 million the number of vehicles targeted by a recall in France, including 1.7 million by a “stop drive”, an obligation to immobilize the car. The cars affected by this “stop drive” are all those equipped with risk-at-risk airbags in Corsica and overseas as well as cars dating from before 2011 on metropolitan territory outside Corsica.
“Of course recalling 2.5 million vehicles it will be very complicated, of course we will have to be patient for everyone, it will not be done in a snap of the fingers”, added the general delegate of 40 million motorists. “There, for me, we finally have a Minister of Transport who becomes aware of the magnitude of the phenomenon and who understands that we will have to preserve human life at all costs. It would still be too stupid to die because of an airbag”.
“We needed a deadly case in metropolitan territory so that we can pierce the bubble of silence and that finally the recall campaign is publicized”, conceded the activist, while DAcient the risk of exploding Takata airbags is known, 18 people died, 16 of which in the overseas and two in France. Pierre Chasseray call “All motorists to check in a few clicks if their vehicle is one of those who can be a problem.”
