Thursday, June 12, the Senate massively rejected the “Zucman tax”, the ultra-rich taxation bill worn by the left.

Taxing the richest is the idea of ​​the economist Gabriel Zucman. Concretely, he recommends setting up a 2 % floor tax on the heritage of large fortunes of more than 100 million euros. In total, nearly 20 billion euros could be recovered by this tax, but such a measure could push for tax exile certain large patterns.

The National Assembly had adopted the text at first reading last February. Studied this Thursday in the Senate, the upper chamber rejected this bill. Demonstrations also took place in front of the Luxembourg Palace, organized by several associations. In the morning of Thursday, June 12, the government spokesperson reiterated during the Council of Ministers: no taxation of the rich. 1,800 taxpayers would be affected by this measure.
