Pursued for “aggravated war crimes and terrorist crimes”, OSAMA KRAYEM – Long hair and thick beard, denim jacket, imperturbable air – is judged for its role in the execution of a Jordanian pilot, captured at the end of 2014, in Syria, by the Organization Islamic State (IS), and burned alive, during a macabre staging. “Osama Krayem, in concert and in agreement with other co-authors of the Islamic State, killed Maaz al-Kassasbeh”, said the prosecutor, Reena Devgun, in the introduction of the trial.

On December 24, 2014, the young pilot of the Royal Jordanian Air Force, 26, had to eject from his plane, hit by a shot during an international mission, carried out against IS, above Rakka. Recovered in a river, he had been taken prisoner on the same day by members of the terrorist organization. If the date of his death could not be established, his execution, filmed and disseminated, on February 3, 2015, by the propaganda organ of IS, had caused dread in the whole world.

Unbearable, the twenty-two-minute film, which constitutes a central piece of the accusation, shows the pilot, dressed in an orange prisoner uniform, swollen face, advance in the middle of thirteen beige trellis fighters, armed and hooded, before being placed in a cage. One of the jihadists then grabbed a torch and sets fire to a gasoline trail on the ground, which ignites the pilot. For long minutes, the camera films its agony. Then, a excavator covers her body with rubble.
