A 500kg bomb dating from the Second World War was discovered, Friday, March 7, near the Gare du Nord. Obus, bombs, grenades … 15% of war ammunition 39-45 have not exploded and part of them are still hidden.
Friday, March 7, a shell of almost 500 kg, including 300 explosives, was found in Seine-Saint-Denis during a railway site, two and a half kilometers from the Gare du Nord. An exceptional but dangerous discovery in view of its heavy explosive load. The shell has since been defused by four deminers from the Paris police headquarters late Friday afternoon.
If the dimensions of this shell are extraordinary, it is not uncommon to find other explosive projectiles. Indeed, almost once a week, a bomb or a shell is found and then defused in France. No less than 500 tonnes of ammunition are thus recovered each year, 5 to 10 of which contain chemicals. These devices are mainly found in northern France, where bombings took place.
