A high -speed progression. Train attendance in France broke a record for the third consecutive year in 2024, confirming the dynamics of rail transport observed since the exit of COVVID, said on Thursday, June 19, the Transport Regulatory Authority (ART) in its annual report.

There were 6% more travelers in 2024 in trains compared to 2023, an increase identical to that of last year, writes art. This craze was carried by regional trains, and in particular daily ter, as well as intercities, whose attendance jumped 11%.

Summer attendance was also much better than the previous year, under the combination of the Olympic Games and the Rail Pass, which offered young people from 16 to 27 years old to travel unlimited on regional trains for 49 euros per month. Logical consequence, the average occupancy rate of trains continues to increase to 51% on average and even more than 75% on high -speed trains.

The dynamics are not only French. Everywhere in Europe, the enthusiasm for the train trip has been confirmed since the exit of the COVIR. On average, attendance in 2024 on the continent was 9% higher than that of 2019, last year before the pandemic.

Even the transport of goods started upwards after two years of significant drop. The freight trains transported 10% more goods compared to 2023 in France. “A level which remains however 10% lower than the activity of 2021”, specifies art.
