The progressive reoccupation of the Gaza Strip by Israeli infantry and armor was in fact accompanied by a methodical destruction of the Palestinian enclave as a place to live.
These are the twelve universities which were systematically demolished, as well as the schools destroyed, totally or partially, 97%. Town halls and other administrative buildings were also struck in the name of a supposed link with the structure “terrorist” of Hamas, even when it was the only civilian branch of the Islamist movement. This is the same accusation which, without ever having been substantiated, was launched by Israeli propaganda to justify the successive assaults on the thirty hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
An emblematic institution
The case of the Nasser hospital in Khan Younes is particularly revealing of this Israeli relentlessness. This public institution, the largest in the south of the Gaza Strip, was targeted from December 17, 2023, with a teenage girl killed in the maternity ward. Thousands of civilians then massed within the hospital grounds, hoping, wrongly, that it would be spared by the invaders.
