The UGTT denounces an unfair judgment against Ahmed Souab

The national executive office of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) expressed, in a press release published Sunday, November 2, 2025, its deep indignation at the verdict pronounced against the lawyer and former magistrate Ahmed Souab, describing the decision as an unfair judgment tainted by serious procedural irregularities and false accusations.

According to the trade union organization, the verdict rendered against Ahmed Souab constitutes a clear attack on the principles of justice and independence of the judiciary. The UGTT recalled that the person concerned is a former judge recognized for his probity and independence, as well as a lawyer committed to rights and freedoms and a constant opponent of violence and terrorism. “We welcomed this decision with great astonishment,” said the press release, adding that the violations noted during the trial were “unworthy of the rule of law.”

The trade union organization also reiterated its total support for Ahmed Souab, his family and the entire body of lawyers, saluting the historic role of the Tunisian bar in the defense of freedoms.

Finally, the UGTT called on the Tunisian justice system to reverse this unjust judgment and to guarantee the accused a fair and public procedure, in accordance with national and international human rights standards.
