The Vendée Globe is over!

The Vendée Globe’s finish line has been officially closed since Friday 8:00 am. Still at sea, the Belgian Denis Van Weynbergh will therefore not be classified.

The tenth edition of the Vendée Globe is officially finished! Since Friday at 8:00 am, when the race has started for 116 days, the (virtual) finish line has been closed off the Sables d’Olonne. They are therefore 32 to have spent the line in time, and honor to Charlie Dalin, winner in 64 days (new record) on Macif Health Provident, and seven to have abandoned. It is therefore a historical edition, since never so many skippers had started (40), and have never been classified as much.

Regarding the abandonments, it is necessary to go back to 2005 to see as little (7 abandonments out of 20 participants at the time), proof that the boats are more and more solid, that the weather conditions were generally favorable during this 20th edition, and that the sailors were cautious. To date, there is still a skipper at sea, the Belgian Denis Van Weynbergh, currently in the Gulf of Gascogne and who was to arrive on Saturday afternoon or in the evening.

Dalin: “Denis can be proud of his world tour”

The skipper of Ieteren Group will therefore not be classified, just a few hours late. The organizers of the Vendée Globe announce that they will be present on the water to welcome it and that it will be celebrated like the other skippers during its rise in the channel, also broadcast on the Internet. Winner Charlie Dalin wanted to send him a message:
“The arrival of Denis closes this incredible edition of the Vendée Globe. He can be proud of his world tour! He has shown courage and an incredible commitment to bring his boat back to the sands of Olonne. That he benefits from these last moments at sea and that he savor this last ascent of the channel of this edition, which promises to be memorable and worthy of its fighting spirit. »» Next meeting: in November 2028 for the eleventh edition, with a number of participants once again limited to 40.
