You have surely already felt it when you arrive at the airport. This cold sweat before boarding. Does my cabin suitcase are the right size? Today, beyond dimensions, each company also has its own pricing policy. From six euros minimum to Ryanair at 19 euros for Transavia. A price jungle that could soon change.
About twenty companies have just agreed on a unique format of small free cabin baggage the size of a backpack. Good news for a crazy passenger to avoid additional costs. “I don’t have the right to have a handbag and another bag, and therefore not to repay a second, I put my handbag in my baggage.”
Harmonization would be welcome for some. “It would allow all the people who travel to have almost a pricing grid so as not to have unpleasant surprises before going on vacation,” said a passenger.
But the new free cabin baggage could impact the total price of tickets, according to Arnaud Aymé, transport specialist at SIA Partners: “If an optional service becomes standard in a service, obviously, the price of the standard service increases and it will be in fairly substantial proportions, since today, airlines, especially low cost, make up to 50 % of their turnover on optional services.”
The measure should apply at the start of the school year. MEPs, they hope to go further and claim the right to two free cabin suitcases per passenger.
