Bad news about your electricity bill for the start of the year. While prices are expected to fall, this will not happen in February. On the electricity market, prices were expected to fall by 6 to 7%. But this reduction will be invisible on the invoice because in a few days, Regulated Access to Historic Nuclear Electricity (ARENH) will end. Until now, part of the electricity produced by EDF was sold at advantageous prices to private competitors. The price was blocked by the State.
From 2026, suppliers will buy all their electricity at market prices. But according to this expert, the operators had to make efforts. “At the end of the ARENH, there is little chance that the various suppliers will increase their prices. The first reason is that the majority of offers are at a fixed price. Suppliers are required to keep their prices frozen for a certain period of time, one or two years, and therefore do not have the right to increase prices excluding taxes in this way. And the second point is that as prices are currently falling on the wholesale markets, suppliers will always offer more competitive offers because the market context is good for offering advantageous prices to individuals.“, explains Maxime de La Raudière, electricity expert and deputy general manager of Sélectra.
