Having become a mother at the end of last year, Chloé Trespeuch (31) dreams of a third Olympic medal in snowboard cross, next February during the Milan-Cortina Games. The French champion is also now planning to compete in the Olympics in France in 2030. Which was not the case before her birth.
It’s a brand new Chloé Trespeuch (31 years old) who recently returned to competition. And not only because the French champion became a mother at the end of last year for the first time in her life, to little Marlo. The happy event, like the fact of resuming her life as a high-level sportswoman, seems to have given wings to the native of Bourg-Saint-Maurice, more ambitious than ever and visibly no longer in a hurry as the end of her career approaches.
At the dawn of trying to validate his ticket for the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games (“I have everything left to do and it will start in December with a selection phase. Hoping to be one of the four selected for the Olympics and to be able to play for the medal”) and thus to afford the right to compete in the Olympic Games for the fourth time in his life after having played in those of Sotchi (2014), Pyeongchang (2018) and Beijing (2022), the double Olympic medalist sees herself also being there in 2030 at the Games in France.
Trespeuch: “I still really have the flame and the passion”
“Basically, I thought I might have done the trick after these Games, but in fact, not at all. I still really have the flame and the passion for competition,” admitted Sunday evening on France 3 as part of the Stade 2 show, Trespeuch is nonetheless aware of not mastering all the cards. “Projecting myself to 2030 is a little early to say, because the body is a little damaged and there are a lot of impacts in snowboarding, so we have to take everything into account: I still have to have the desire and the performance.”
The bronze medalist in Sochi and silver medalist in Beijing now even takes great pleasure in training, which is to say, to hear her, like this break to give birth to Marlo, gave her new impetus. “I like training more and more. Because before, I was very competitive and the rest cost me a little. Now I really like the overall envelope. The break allowed me to find motivation in all the little things of an athlete’s life. »
Trespeuch: “I worked a lot to come back”
It must be said that Trespeuch left himself no choice by immediately putting in the work, with the feeling of starting again at the starting point. “It’s a bit of a special season because I’m coming back from pregnancy so obviously I’m starting from scratch. The body has changed but it also has a good memory, so I worked a lot to come back and regain strength, explosiveness and technique.”
The snowboarder also took great care with the “landmarks”, a crucial point in her eyes. “What plays a lot in our sport is knowing how to choose the right line, as quickly as possible, and saving time on overtaking, being hyper strategic and doing the right visualization so that our decisions go quickly and we can choose our race.”
But that’s also why the Habs love their sport so much. “What’s nice is that there are no rules, anything can happen (…) I very rarely start at the front, it’s not my strong point, so I’m often behind, but I love being a hunter because it allows me to see what’s happening in front, and it stimulates me a lot to see the others. Building my strategy based on others and adapting my line is really the strategic part that I love. » And could make him want to push until 2030.
