Two French people were part of the crew of the plane which transported the Libyan chief of staff, and died in the crash of the plane, franceinfo learned from a diplomatic source, Friday December 26, three days after the accident in Turkey. “The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, via our embassy in Turkey and the crisis and support center, is in contact with the families and supports them in their efforts”adds this source.

The plane took off from Ankara on Tuesday evening before crashing a few minutes later, after reporting a “electrical malfunction”according to the Turkish presidency. On board were a third crew member and five Libyan military officials, including General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad.

The plane’s black box has been found and will be analyzed in a neutral country, the Turkish government announced on Wednesday. In Libya, two executives are vying for power: the Government of National Unity (GNU) installed in Tripoli and that of Benghazi, controlled by Marshal Khalifa Haftar and his sons. Turkey is a strong ally of the Tripoli government, one recognized by the UN.
