While Oier Lazkano was taken by the patrol, several of the Spaniard’s successes should be re-credited.
This is the main doping case of the year in cycling. After an almost blank year under the colors of the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team,
Oier Lazkano has been provisionally suspended by the UCI. The reason? Abnormal values in his biological passport, for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons, at the time when he was racing for Movistar.
While awaiting a definitive suspension, Lazkano should be deprived of his results obtained in recent years. According to the La Flamme Rouge account, three successes should be withdrawn from the Spaniard to be reallocated to another rider. And two French people could benefit from it.
Bastien Tronchon (Decathlon-AG2R) should thus be declared winner of the Clasica Jaen 2024, where he finished 2nd behind Lazkano. Same thing for Juan Ayuso, who will certainly recover the title of Spanish time trial champion for 2023.
A new victory for Démare?
And the second Frenchman? It is a young retiree, Arnaud Démare, who could subsequently achieve the 98th success of his career. In this case the Boucles de la Mayenne 2023, where Picard took 2nd place in the general classification.
On the other hand, Lazkano’s stage successes, even if they are withdrawn from him, will not be attributed to another rider. Too bad for the Frenchman Célestin Guillon (Van Rysel-Roubaix), who finished behind the Spaniard during the 1st stage of the Boucles de la Mayenne.
