Morocco experienced new riots on the night of Wednesday 1 to Thursday October 2. A banking agency was burnt down, an official building was taken by storm by the protesters. Near Agadir, in Lqliaa, the gendarmes abounded two people by postponing an attack according to the authorities. It is the most serious incident since the start of this wave of protest.
Moroccans have been shouting their anger in the streets for six days at the call of a collective baptized Gen Z 212, a voice of a generation that requires more social justice and functional public services. The people want health and education. “Young people are claiming schools and hospitals. It is not impossible, it is essential. How do the authorities not understand it?”launches a demonstrator.
But the independent movement which wants to be peaceful is won by the overflows. For two days, clashes with the police have multiplied and the authorities respond with waves of arrests: more than 400, Tuesday, September 30. Some are embarked in the middle of an interview, others with their children in their arms. Returning to an emergency earlier this week, the Moroccan government said it was attentive and has promised to respond positively to certain youth claims. He also welcomed the reaction of the police in the face of overflows.
