Thibau Nys won this Sunday in Dendermonde during the 8th round of the cyclo-cross season. Despite the absence of Van der Poel, Van Aert could not do better than 6th.
Two days after his second place in Gavere, Thibau Nys did not miss the target this Sunday during the 8th round of the cyclo-cross season. In the absence of Mathieu Van der Poel, untouchable since the start of the season and winner of the last meeting on Friday, the Belgian did not miss his chance to win.
If the Dutchman was not present this Sunday near Dendermonde, Nys nevertheless had to fight to achieve victory in this new World Cup event. All this came down to the last lap. Present in a group of nine runners, the Belgian was able to gain the upper hand over Van der Poel’s teammate, Tibor del Grosso in order to lift his arms first. Third Laurens Sweeck completes the podium for this 8th round of the World Cup season.
Van Aert and retirement
The runner from Baloise Glowi Lions was able to make the difference in the last lap of the race by getting the better of Laurens Sweeck who failed to keep his first or second place. Thanks to this victory, Nys won its third victory of the season in the World Cup after those obtained in Flamanville then in Tabor. However, in the absence of his lifelong rival, Van Aert disappointed. Only 6th in this event, the Belgian lacked the juice to achieve victory.
In the lead for almost three laps, the winner of the last stage of the Tour de France in 2025 lost his footing in the technical and sandy parts of this race. Still looking for a first victory this season, Van Aert, second at Hofstade behind Van der Poel, will try to achieve his first success this Monday in Loenhout (Belgium) where he will meet a certain Mathieu Van der Poel.
