Big fright when the 16th stage of the Tour de France at Mont Ventoux arrived! As soon as the finish line is crossed, the leader of the UNO-X Mobility team, Tobias Johannessen, collapsed on the ground, when he had just finished 28th, 5’11 of the Valentin Paretrere winner. Immediately taken care of by the medical service, the 25 -year -old Norwegian was placed under respiratory assistance, via an oxygen mask.
He then went up in the ambulance to go and take exams, and in particular an ultrasound of the lungs. A few moments later, his manager in the Norwegian training, Thor Hushovd, was reassuring on television from his country: “It’s always frightening as a scene but fortunately, Tobias is already better. He had really painful stomach cramps during the ascent of the Ventoux ”.
Having trouble breathing because of these cramps, Johannessen suffered enormously to rally the arrival, but managed to keep his eighth place in the general classification. A place that the Norwegian runner was not expected, who had finished 30th and 35th in his two previous participations. Still, it remains to know if he will be able to start on Wednesday, and keep his place in the top 10.
Vingegaard: “Some people should use their eyes a little more in the arrival area”
This arrival at Ventoux was decidedly hectic, because Jonas Vingegaard, the second in the general classification, was overthrown by a photographer. Fortunately for the Danish, he was not injured. “A photographer ran right in front of me. I don’t know what he was doing. I fell. I think some people should use their eyes a little more in the arrival area, “he said at the microphone of TNT SPORTS.
More fear than harm, therefore, for the pugacar dolphin, who will still be able to try to worry the Slovenian during the next mountain stages.
