Wave of attacks in transport: the Federation sounds the alarm

The General Transport Federation under the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) expressed, this Sunday, November 2, 2025, its deep concern about the increase in acts of violence targeting public transport agents and infrastructure.

In a press release, she denounced serious and repeated attacks that occurred in recent days against employees of Transtu and the National Interurban Transport Company (SNTRI), as well as acts of vandalism affecting buses, metro trains and the Tunis–La Marsa TGM.

The Federation strongly condemned these attacks which undermine both the State and its institutions, calling on the authorities to strengthen the security presence in public transport and main stations. In particular, it calls for the reinstallation of fixed police stations in large terminals in order to guarantee the safety of workers and users.

Furthermore, the Federation urges the Ministry of Transport as well as the general directorates of Transtu and SNTRI to activate professional protection mechanisms, to psychologically and materially support agents in the field and to improve security and insurance systems.

Insisting on the vital nature of the sector, the Federation recalls that public transport is not a simple means of travel, but a real lung of the country and a reflection of the image of the State. The protection of public transport companies, she emphasizes, constitutes a shared national responsibility and a test of collective respect towards institutions and citizens.
