“We would like to kill the mail that we wouldn’t do it otherwise”Estimates Tuesday July 29 on Franceinfo Arnaud de Blauwe, editor -in -chief of the monthly What to chooseWhile a new increase is added to a series of annual increases. The price of the green stamp will increase by 13 cents in early 2026, from 1.39 to 1.52 euros.
According to him, “La Poste is still confronted with a dilemma. Historically, she is there to send letters. But in recent years, the French have been sending less and less letters. We now favor digital exchanges”.

For years, regular increases in the price of the stamp has accumulated : “Today, sending a letter is expensive, but La Poste had accustomed us to this rate. It’s been years and years since the increases it imposes are quite significant”. The price of the green stamp crosses a symbolic threshold from 1.39 euros to 1.52 euros. “To give you an idea, it is now practically more expensive than the price of a coffee at the counter in Paris.”

For Arnaud de Blauwe, this trend questions the very sustainability of the mail service: “La Poste now drags mail as a ball. Year after year, traffic decreases, turnover linked to mail decreases. It is necessary to compensate by extremely strong increases. Perhaps one day the question of whether we will continue to sell stamps.”
