Six matches were scheduled for the night in the NBA, with many French players, most of whom shone and won.
Western Conference leader Oklahoma City has a new runner-up, and it’s San Antonio! The Spurs had a first quarter of the season that exceeded their expectations, and on Sunday they signed a sixth victory in a row in the regular season (the NBA Cup final did not count), on the Washington floor. The Texas won 113-124 in the capital against Wizards deprived in particular of their two Frenchmen Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr.
Washington held on for a quarter, before completely exploding (21-43 in the second quarter) and letting San Antonio slip to victory. De’Aaron Fox finished with 27 points, while Victor Wembanyama, back on the bench to start the match, quietly achieved a double-double in 21’30: 14 points and 12 rebounds, playing only 40 seconds in the last quarter. He also brought his streak of games to at least one against to 101. On Tuesday, the Spurs will host OKC for a summit match!
The Wolves push the Bucks
Fifth, Minnesota pushed Milwaukee (11th in the East) a little further by winning 103-100 against the Bucks. Milwaukee, still deprived of Giannis Antetokounmpo led for two and a half quarters, and the score was 50-66 two minutes after returning from the locker room, but the Wolves signed an 18-2, with half of the points signed Naz Reiz, to pick up at the end of the quarter.
The score was then tight until nine minutes remaining (85-86), before Minnesota took a seven-point lead (96-89) and managed the end of the match well. Anthony Edwards finished with 24 points and Rudy Gobert with a double-double (11pts, 18rbds), equaling his season record. The Frenchman also became the 45th player in history to grab at least 10,000 rebounds in the regular season.
Points record between Hawks and Bulls
Behind the Wolves, we find Houston, who fell into the Sacramento trap, despite being penultimate, by losing 125-124 after overtime. The Rockets led by 14 points at the start of the last quarter, but the Kings snatched overtime thanks to Russell Westbrook 14 seconds from the end (112-112). A very tight overtime where Sacramento won thanks to a 3-point shot from Denis Schröder (24pts, 10ft) three seconds from the buzzer, Kevin Durant (24pts, 10rbds, 8ft) then missing the winning shot. Frenchman Maxime Raynaud, again the starter, finished with a double-double (12pts, 14rbds).
In the East, New York, 2nd, won 132-125 against Miami (8th) by taking control at the end of the second quarter, and thanks to Jalen Brunson in great form, author of 47 points, 15 out of 26 on shots and 11 out of 11 on free throws. He compensated for the sad match of his friend Karl-Anthony Towns, author of 2 points in 29 minutes (1/5 on shots). Toronto, 6th, lost 96-81 to Brooklyn (13th), completely missing its last quarter (29-16). If the points were not there in Brooklyn, this was not the case in Atlanta, where Chicago won 150-152, without overtime. A record for points in the NBA this season! Nine Bulls scored at least 10 points (28 for Matas Buzelis), while Jalen Johnson finished with 36 points, the Hawks and Trae Young with 35.
