In the same company, they are boss, IT specialist and financial director, and this Tuesday afternoon, October 14, at the heart of their discussions is the suspension of the pension reform. They were born between 1964 and 1968.

Like Manuel Da Silva, marble worker. He was one of those forced by the reform to work longer. From now on, French people born in 1968 like him will be able to leave one year and three months earlier. “If I win for a year, I’ll definitely be delighted. Especially with the jobs we do. There’s dust, there’s noise. We see that with machines, it’s physically tiring”he testifies.

His boss was also born in 1968. No hardship, but any year is a good one. “In my career, we haven’t had many gifts. Each time, it was more work, a little less freedom. This is news that certainly makes us happy. Afterwards, I am not one of the professions most affected by arduous work, but that will in any case give me the choice“, reacts Philippe Ledrans, manager of MDY Marbrerie.

In the offices, Marcelle Chevron was born in 1966. A generation which will be able to leave nine months earlier than planned by the reform. With this turnaround, the financial director is worried about the balance of the pension plan: “The problem is who will pay the pensions? I will have my pension. But the people who are 10, 15 years younger than me?”she asks herself.

Like them, 3.5 million French people are affected by this suspension and will be able to stop working earlier, with a cost to public finances of 400 million euros in 2026 and 1.8 billion in 2027. Sébastien Lecornu announces a vast reflection on pensions and work in the coming weeks to discuss, among other things, financing.
