Will the “super promotions” make their return when they have been prohibited since March 1, 2024 on hygiene, maintenance and beauty products? Monday, March 17, the deputies examined a bill aimed at authorizing these discounts again of more than 34%. Senators will debate at the end of March. If consumers are waiting for that, sellers and suppliers are very divided.

In Paris, in the middle of the HLM, rue d’Alésia, in the 14th arrondissement, Dali is more than favorable to the return of “super promotions” in the hygiene department: “I’m completely interested on toilet paper, handkerchiefs. We would like prices to drop a little, that it helps us a little bit.”.

“It has been more expensive since there are no more promotions so we are waiting for them to come back impatiently. We need it.”

“The law must change, for all people, because there are sacred needs”also assures Marie-Hélène, another resident of the neighborhood.

This text plans to allow the least 70% again, the least 80% on baby layers, laundry, disposable razors or even shampoos. This bill was tabled by the former Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane Travert, and by his colleague in the Assembly, Julien Dive. The two elected officials did not wish to answer questions from Franceinfo.

It is indeed a controversial text. Industrialists oppose it. There is no question for them to return to broken prices.

“In the vast majority of cases, it is the industrialist who pays promotions. It is taken on his margin”.

“When the promotion is too strong, the company is at a loss. Today, among our SMEs working in this drugstore sector and hygiene products, there are 50% in deficit. It’s not going”Underlines Léonard Prunier, president of the federation of small suppliers.

For its part, mass distribution cries these promotions that attract customers, in a context of price war. The lobbies are therefore at work behind the scenes to try to win the decision.
