Works are “carried out to eradicate a certain number of molecules”assures on franceinfo Monday November 3 Dominique Stempfel, president of the tire union after the publication of a report on pollution linked to the composition of tires, produced by the association Agir pour l’environnement. The study concludes that each year, in France, tire abrasion results in the release of nearly 80,000 tonnes of substances into the air, soil and water.
“Manufacturers did not wait for this study to work”declares Dominique Stempfel who assures that manufacturers are working to make “evolve tires in terms of safety and eco-responsibility”. According to him, manufacturers develop tires “which eliminate a certain number of petroleum-based products to replace them with eco-sourced products”. Certain tires are notably made from dandelions, assures Dominique Stempfel. These products are currently “in the prototype state”, but the president of the tire union assures that “industrialization is underway.”
“Large manufacturers know how to make tires without using petroleum-based products.” The share of biosourced materials in new tires can reach up to 70% among certain manufacturers, according to Dominique Stempfel. “Evolution is underway for the good of the planet and users.”
However, this development “may cost more” to consumers, according to him because “these are rarer materials”. “We may fear that this eco-responsible development will have a cost”he concludes.
